The Time Has Come To Unite

The Three Who Couldn’t-But Did
by Leonard Berlow

Billy Banks wasn’t able to keep up or even play with the neighborhood kids. Billy was born with one leg shorter than the other. That made him kind of hippity-ho when he walked or tried to run.  The other kids weren’t mean to Billy because he was different than they were, but just the same he was always last to be taken when sides were chosen for tag or baseball. Often, when Billy say the kids playing in the empty lot next door to his house, he’d pretend that he really didn’t care about joining in.

Remembering When
by Joe Di Pace

There are times when some of us who have acquired a mobility disability will stop and remember what is was like when we were abled bodied. No I don’t mean the every day occurrence of trying to remember what it was like without pain or lack of mobility. I mean thinking back and savoring moments that defined who we once were. The freedom of moving around unrestricted, without giving it a second thought. The freedom of bouncing up from a lying down position without having to think about how you are going to do it for 3-4 minute. Those of you who have acquired a mobility disability later on in life know exactly what I am talking about.

What Is All the Commotion About?
Let me start off by telling you what a Human Stem Cell (HSC) is. A HSC is a precursor cell that can give rise to multiple tissue types. HSC are broken down into Embryonic Stem Cells (ES), Embryonic Germ Cells (EG), fetal stem cells, and adult stem cells. In essence, the idea is that with further research, that scientists some day can basically clone healthy cells from these HSC that are organ specific and theoretically can heal diseased organs.
